Dylan Thomas hotel to receive £230,000
A hotel synonymous with Dylan Thomas - Browns Hotel in Laugharne, Carmarthenshire - is to be given a new lease of life with the help of Welsh Assembly funding.
The £230,000 grant will help owner Nigel Short transform the Grade II-listed property into a 15-room boutique hotel, with a further £62,500 contribution from Cadw. Work is due to start on the scheme next month, with the new-look hotel scheduled to open its doors in Easter 2012.
Welsh heritage minister Alun Ffred Jones said: "This grant will help restore Browns Hotel to its rightful place as a historical and tourist attraction." Meanwhile, the Welsh Assembly Government has also provided £100,000 to help the Plough in Rhosmaen, near Llandeilo, towards expansion plans.
