EPIC replacement on hold?
There is local concern that proposals to replace the outdated EPIC Leisure Centre in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, may be scrapped.
It is speculated that plans to build a new leisure facility, featuring an eight-lane swimming pool and six-court sports hall, have been put on hold by Cheshire West and Chester Council.
However, the council has assured the public that potential sites earmarked for the replacement leisure facility will be discussed during a forthcoming 12-month review of general leisure provision throughout the borough.
A detailed feasibility study by consultants Strategic Leisure recommends that the replacement centre should provide a 25m, eight-lane swimming pool and a large learner pool with seating for 400 spectators, a six-court sports hall, a fitness suite, two studios, a crèche and a café.
The existing 6,000sq m (64,000sq ft) EPIC facility currently offers residents a swimming pool and a learner pool, a fitness studio, a dance studio, a cinema and a café.
