Eastern promise at Tio Pepe
The winners of the Tio Pepe ITV London Restaurant Awards have been revealed.
Two awards went to Amaya, which was named New Restaurant of the Year and the Tio Pepe London Restaurant of the Year. Amaya narrowly missed out on Indian Restaurant of the Year, which was awarded to Rasoi Vineet Bhatai.
Hakkasan’s Tony Chee Hwee won the Outstanding London Chef award while Nobu scooped the London Restaurant Academy Award of Excellence, which was judged by restaurateurs to be the place they’d most like to visit when off-duty.
East London’s The Fox won in the London Gastropub of the Year category while French Restaurant of the year went to Racine.
Italian Restaurant of the Year went to restaurateur Gennaro Contaldo – the man who Jamie Oliver calls his ‘London Dad’ – for his Charlotte Street site Passione.
Finally, the late Alan Crompton-Batt was posthumously awarded for his Outstanding Contribution to London Restaurants. Details: www2.angliatv.com
