Easy life for easyJet customers
UK airline, easyJet, intends to replace its existing check-in system with automated kiosks.
Last week, the airline stated that it was the first in the industry to have seen every passenger on one of its flights – including those with hold baggage – use a self-check-in kiosk.
Trials are continuing at Nottingham East Midlands airport for the Department for Transport-approved system while it is eventually expected that the self-service kiosks will be rolled out to all other airports used by the easyJet network.
Passengers use simple touch-screens to identify their flight and retrieve their individual bookings, answer a series of standard security questions and then the kiosk prints a boarding card.
Those passengers with hold baggage can print out standard industry baggage tags and then take their luggage to a ‘bag drop’ area.
The airline said the new scheme was part of an ongoing easyJet initiative to reduce costs by using technology to simplify processes and reduce check-in complexity while also helping to increase airport capacity by using space more efficiently.
Chief executive, Ray Webster, said: “Our business is all about simplicity and removing costs by making systems and processes more efficient.
“In due course, this could revolutionise the airport process in the way that the internet revolutionised the booking process.”
