Everton FC refutes takeover reports
Everton Football Club (EFC) has denied newspaper reports that it has been the subject of a takeover bid from a consortium of businessmen based in the United Arab Emirates.
According to an Abu Dhabi-based newspaper, Chris Nathaniel of entertainment agency NVA Management admitted holding talks with a "prominent Dubai businessman" over the possibility of securing a controlling stake in the Premier League club. However, EFC chief executive Robert Elstone said: "Mr Nathaniel rang me to apologise profusely for the piece claiming that he had been misquoted. I had one, brief meeting with Mr Nathaniel a year ago and that is as far as it went.
"To suggest that he is working for us - and that he is close to concluding any form of deal - is totally wrong." EFC chair Bill Kenwright is currently looking for new investment into the Liverpool-based club, but told a recent meeting of shareholders that no progress had yet been made.
