FIA and Sport England team up to encourage participation in exercise
More than 400 gyms throughout the UK are offering free use of their facilities this month in an initiative being run by the Fitness Industry Association (FIA) in partnership with Sport England.
Get Active UK, part of Sport England’s Everyday Sport campaign, began on 27 March and runs until 23 April. Up to 500,000 people are expected to take part in activities during the period.
“Most people want to do something to improve their health and fitness but aren’t sure where to start,” said Andrée Deane, CEO of the FIA.
“Get Active UK provides the perfect opportunity for everyone to find something which really suits them.”
“Our overall objective with Everyday Sport is to increase the number of people who are physically active,” said Stephen Baddeley, interim chief executive of Sport England.
“Through our association with FIA member centres and clubs we are giving people the chance to take the first steps towards a healthier lifestyle.”
The campaign was launched by TV presenter Annabel Croft at East Ham Leisure Centre. www.getactiveuk.co.uk
