Fans call for Disney to honour the late Robin Williams with theme park return

Following the death of Robin Williams, fans of the legendary comedian and actor have called upon Disney to honour his memory in the company’s theme parks.

Upon hearing of his sudden passing, admirers of Williams flooded Facebook, Twitter and other forms of social media across the internet, calling for the comeback of Disney attractions he lent his voice or character to during his illustrious career.

Williams, who was named a “Disney Legend” in 2009, previously appeared or had his characters appear in multiple Disney attractions across all of its theme parks – from Aladdin to Flubber – with suggestions that Disney bring back a Williams attraction on a short-term basis as they did with “Captain EO” – a 17-minute 3D film – which was shown at Disneyland Florida following the death of Michael Jackson in 2009.

Disney paid tribute to Williams on Twitter, posting a photo of him during his role as Genie in Aladdin but as of yet, no plans have been put in place to bring back any of Williams' attractions.

Disney CEO Robert Iger also put out a statement, saying: “He was a true Disney legend, a beloved member of our family and he will be sorely missed.”

Two popular fan suggestions starring Williams that could be feasibly recreated are “The Magic of Disney Animation” at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, which shows how the animated characters are brought to life with Williams acting as a visitor guide, and “The Timekeeper” – a 1992 360º film presented at three Disney parks, which marked the first time that the Circle-Vision film process was used to deliver a narrative story line, though issues could rise with the location, thanks to the filming technique used for the attraction.
