Five sports to share £3.5m legacy funding
National governing bodies for netball, running, cycling, lacrosse and canoeing have secured a £3.5m funding boost from Sport England in a bid to help increase participation numbers.
Each of the five organisations will receive additional funding to support grassroots initiatives and help ensure a lasting legacy from the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
British Cycling, England Netball and England Athletics have been awarded at least £1m for a variety of programmes, while Canoe England will receive an additional £207,700.
The English Lacrosse Association will receive nearly £200,000 to strengthen its participation and legacy plans, with all five sports looking to capitalise on the potential of the Games.
Sport England chief executive Jennie Price said: "Cycling, running and netball are three success stories for community sport. They show how it can be done."
Hugh Robertson, minister for sport and the Olympics, added: "The £3.5m of additional funding for these sports is so that they can continue this work, capitalise on the added interest that comes with hosting the Olympic Games and help create a real sporting legacy."
