Glasgow pool in line for 'legacy' revamp
Glasgow City Council (GCC) has agreed to press ahead with a £635,000 refurbishment of the city's Whitehill Pool as part of the legacy from the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
The facility is to benefit from improvement works to ensure it is able to meet local demand when Tollcross Leisure Centre shuts in late 2011 to receive its own revamp next year. GCC has approved proposals for the refurbishment of Whitehill Pool's upper floor, which will create an enhanced and expanded Glasgow Club Gym and community space.
A primary school changing area will be refreshed to also serve as community space for the new synthetic grass pitch out of school hours, while the reception will also be overhauled. The local authority will contribute £485,000 to the scheme, with up to £125,000 to be made available as capital and revenue funding from the ENV2 programme.
GCC executive member for the commonwealth games Archie Graham said: "The provision of new changing accommodation would I'm sure make these even more attractive for current and future users. "This will be another example of the city's sports pitch strategy delivering more and improved facilities across the city, leaving a community and sporting legacy in the decades to come."
