Joy is more than happiness – it’s a state of harmony between the heart, mind and spirit

Global Wellness Day (GWD) will mark its 15th anniversary on 13th June 2026, with the theme: #JoyMagenta – a celebration of the healing qualities of simple gestures and activities that spark joy.

The theme will serve as a reminder that joy is always accessible, in moments of gratitude, human connection, creative expression and mindful movement – even if stress, uncertainty and disconnection are causes for concern.

The day will offer people all over the world a chance to intentionally cultivate joy, through activations that nurture compassion, optimism and hope.

What is GWD?

Founded in 2012 by Belgin Aksoy in Turkey, GWD is a non-profit movement dedicated to promoting the power of wellness. Each year, GWD inspires people worldwide through free health and wellness activities, hosted and supported by leading spa and hospitality brands and suppliers.

Belgin Aksoy, founder, GWD, told Spa Business: “Joy is not a luxury or a fleeting emotion; it is a vital force that reconnects us to life itself. In a world moving faster than ever, joy reminds us to pause, breathe and remember what truly matters – our health, our relationships, our connection to nature and our sense of purpose.

With #JoyMagenta, we are inviting people everywhere to say Yes! to life through simple, meaningful and inclusive wellness experiences. From joyful movement and mindful gatherings to nature-based activities, creative expression, community celebrations and acts of kindness, Global Wellness Day 2026 will be filled with moments that uplift the spirit and strengthen human connection. Our activations around the world will celebrate joy as a shared language – one that brings people together, regardless of age, culture or background.”

Guiding pillars for joy

GWD ambassadors worldwide will promote joyful practices for individual and community wellbeing based on four guiding principles:

  • Joy in gratitude: Appreciation for life’s simple blessings will be cultivated, shifting scarcity perspectives to those of abundance. Every day moments will be transformed into meaningful experiences.
  • Joy through connection: Participants will be encouraged to deepen relationships and foster a sense of belonging through acts of kindness, empathy and shared time together.
  • Joy in movement: Mindful movement, such as walking, dancing, yoga or stretching, will bring presence and energy into daily life.
  • Joy through creativity: Participants will use their imaginations and experience joy through creative self-expression, using practices such as art, music, cooking or writing.
