Gordon Ramsay closes second restaurant site
Chef, Gordon Ramsay, has announced the closure of his only restaurant in Scotland, Amaryllis, so he can concentrate on those in London.
Amaryllis was situated in Glasgow at the five-star hotel One Devonshire Gardens and was closed as of 14 January.
According to a statement released by his company, Gordon Ramsay Holdings, the decision to close Amaryllis was joint one between the chef and Citrus Hotels.
“I am sad to be closing Amaryllis after nearly three years,” said Ramsay. “It’s never an easy decision to close a restaurant but we have been unable to adapt what we do in London to the market here in Glasgow and we can no longer carry the losses.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Scottish people for all the support the restaurant has enjoyed over the past three years.”
Another of Ramsay’s London restaurants, Fleur, also recently closed down.
Amid rumours of mounting debt within his restaurant group, Ramsay now has six restaurants left in London, of which two – the Savoy Grill and the Connaught – were each awarded a Michelin star in the new guide. Details: www.gordonramsay.com
