GymNation has launched a workout in a hot air balloon above Riyadh, with views of the city’s iconic landmarks.

The class was developed following research conducted across the GCC revealing that 67 per cent of exercisers are looking for memorable fitness experiences.

Following a dynamic warm-up and stretching session on the ground, participants ascend to around 2,200ft for a 30-minute full-body strength and conditioning workout including Cloud Crushers (squats); Altitude Lunges (lunges) and Wing Spans (lateral raises.)

Rory McEntee, chief marketing officer at GymNation, says: “As the research shows, exercisers are demanding more from their fitness provider and ever since GymNation opened its first gym in KSA we have delivered. This new class takes things to new heights, delivering a first-of-its-kind fitness experience for a region that is becoming a global benchmark for setting records.”

The balloon workouts – which have been cleared by health and safety experts – will take place every Saturday throughout January, with limited spaces available.

The operator has also just entered its third GCC market, with the launch of its first club in Bahrain, which will be followed by a second in April.

Each Bahrain site will extend to 35,000sq ft and offer large training zones, group exercise, studios for Hyrox, reformer Pilates, dedicated recovery areas and a women-only section.

“The expansion marks another milestone in GymNation’s mission to make fitness affordable, accessible and inclusive across the GCC,” says Loren Holland, founder and CEO of GymNation.

“The gyms we're opening in Bahrain are next-level, from the scale of the space to the combination of world-class facilities, equipment and design.

"As we have done in KSA and the UAE, we’re now going to raise the standard for what a gym can be in Bahrain.”

The brand is aiming for 60 gyms and more than 300,000 members by the end of 2026. It currently has 34 locations and 150,000 members.
