Harrow set to get £2m in sport pitches upgrades
Harrow Council is set to approve around £2m of funding to improve sport pitches across the borough over the next 10 years.
The proposed funding follows a review into the standard of sport pitches in the area, conducted in consultation with local sports clubs and national governing bodies.
Highlights of the investment programme include a planned new sports hub, improvements at Bannister Stadium and proposals to substantially upgrade pitches and changing rooms at Headstone Manor Recreation Ground and Kenton Recreation Ground.
Council cabinet member for community and cultural services David Perry said: "This is about increasing the participation in sport at a grass roots level and ensuring our residents are given as many opportunities as possible to be fit and active through sport.
"The proposals are part of our wider priority to increase participation in art, sport, leisure and cultural activities."
The Harrow Draft Outdoor Sports Pitch Strategy 2013-2023 will be considered at the council's 11 April meeting.
