'High Street 2012' for Tower Hamlets
Six historic buildings in Tower Hamlets, have been restored as part of the local authority's High Street 2012 programme - part of legacy plans from the London Games.
The buildings are all located on the A11/A118 thoroughfare that will connect the City of London with the Olympic Park and are the first of around 100 properties to be revamped. Work on 64-68 Whitechapel High Street has included the provision of new shop fronts, repaired brickwork and the pointing of windows. The scheme cost £460,000 and took six months to complete.
Nick Smales, head of 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games at the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, said: "High Street 2012 aims to regenerate of some of the most deprived areas in Tower Hamlets against the backdrop of London 2012."
