Homotopia to extend its celebrations
The Homotopia festival in Liverpool – which celebrates gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender culture – will now run for one week longer than usual owing to a new three-year funding deal with its key supporter, the Liverpool Culture Company.
From 26 October to 15 November, Homotopia will present more than 70 events, including theatre, film, workshops, art, heritage, live music, club nights, dance and cabaret.
Queer superclub, Federation, and women’s music festival, Wimfest, will also feature alongside several music nights led by local artists and musicians.
Homotopia has once again teamed up with Unity Theatre, the Outsiders Film Festival and the newly formed Our Story Liverpool, which researches, archives and documents the hidden histories of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Liverpool.
Since its establishment in 2003, Homotopia has expanded with the launch of Queercore in order that companies and artists can create and display new work during the festival and beyond.
Festival director Gary Everett said: “In future years it is our hope that Queercore will become the lifeblood and creative artery of Homotopia. The scope, wealth and sheer depth of artistic talent in Liverpool is a jewel in the city’s crown and something that Homotopia is proud to be associated with.” Details: www.liverpool.gov.uk
