IHRSA employee health bill introduced to Congress
The International Health, Racquet and Sports club Association's (IHRSA) Workforce Health Improvement Program (WHIP) has been introduced to US Congress.
If passed, this legislation would allow US employers to deduct the cost of health club memberships for their employees on a pre-tax basis.
John McCarthy, executive director of IHRSA, said: 'Improving access to fitness facilities and professionals is critical and I have no doubt the WHIP will effectively improve employee health because more employers will offer an fitness benefit if those benefits are not taxed.'
The WHIP, along with other health promotion issues will be discussed at IHRSA's first ever Legislative Summit on 5-6 May at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Washington DC.
In conjunction with the summit, IHRSA and local member health clubs will be offering free workouts and special classes to the public on 3 May, in a Get Fit Washington DC Day promotion. Details: www.ihrsa.org
