ISPAL Cymru event highlights “risky business”
ISPAL Cymru held its first event for members (last Friday) in the inspiring surroundings of the National Botanic Garden.
As well as an opportunity to enjoy the autumn colours in one of Wales’ leading leisure, tourism and horticultural attractions, ISPAL members got a timely reminder of the responsibilities of all leisure staff in a morning seminar called ‘Risky End of the Business’.
Rob Martin, Fire Safety Officer, advised on the new fire risk assessment process which replaces fire certification. Claire Rawle, partner with Morgan Cole, informed members of the legal implications for all organisations of “Corporate Manslaughter”.
ISPAL’s Jane Strange brought members up to date on policy developments.
The event was organised by ISPAL Cymru shadow board member, John Whitworth. Feedback form a mix of existing and future members was very positive. Presenters brought to life potentially dry subjects and discussion continued long after the formal session was concluded.
ISPAL Cymru secretary Malcolm Stammers said: “This has set a benchmark for the future – we want ISPAL Cymru events to make a genuine contribution to professional development by providing relevant and topical subjects, in exemplar venues throughout Wales, through short, sharp sessions with opportunities to network.”
Further events will take place in North Wales in the late autumn, South East Wales in February and Mid-Wales in May.
