Japanese eatery opens at Oxo
A new Japanese restaurant called Bincho Yakitori has opened on the second floor of the Oxo Tower on London’s Southbank.
The 120-seat restaurant comprises six open grills fronted by a 20-seat eating bar and Sake bar overlooking the Thames river. It serves a Japanese style of cuisine called Izakaya, which features traditional Yakitori and Kushiyaki dishes.
The Japanese term Yakitori translates as grilled bird and involves cooking meat, fish and vegetable skewers over hot charcoals to grill from the inside out. Once cooked, the dishes are dipped in seasonings before a final caramelisation.
The eating establishment was developed by restaurateurs Dominic Ford and Ronnie Truss – from Fish! and Bank Restaurant Group – together with chef David Miney.
Restaurant manager Malcolm Simpson and head chef Hidenori Ohata were recruited from Tokyo, Japan, where Ohata is well known for his Yakitori dishes. Details: www.bincho.co.uk
