Knott’s Berry Farm acquires second hand Demon Drop
Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park, California, US – owned by Cedar Fair – is to install a new tower drop ride for 2010, which has been bought second hand from another park.
The Demon Drop ride is being acquired from Knott’s Berry Farm’s sister site, the Ohio-based Cedar Point, which built the attraction in 1983 for US$2.5m.
Installation of the tower will begin in January and officially open on 31 May, which is Memorial Day Weekend.
The 131ft ride, built by Swiss firm Intamin, has a drop of 99ft and a freefall drop of 60ft. Riders fall at 55 miles an hour, taking 2.5 seconds to drop from top to bottom.
Knott’s Berry Farm made the news recently for the wrong reasons, when two people were injured by a malfunctioning ride on 25 September.
According to the Los Angeles Times, a 12-year-old boy was injured when a cable on the Xcelerator rollercoaster came loose and hit him in the leg. Another man was hurt as a result of the carts rolling back into the boarding area of the ride.
