LG Arena to reopen in autumn
The LG Arena at The NEC, Birmingham, is to reopen this autumn after a £29m redevelopment.
The venue will boast new seating, bars, restaurants and improved backstage areas when it opens, as well as a new ‘living wall’ .
The living wall consists of 15,000 shrubs, plants and ferns, ornamental grasses and hardy perennials, and will rise in steps from 3m to 5.5m, with more than 100 plants for every square metre of wall.
Phil Mead, managing director of the NEC Group Arenas, said last September, when the plans were first announced: "Our capacity will be increased by around 2,000 for the benefit of promoters and major selling acts but also the flexible seating and draping systems will provide more intimate theater-style configurations."
The redevelopment has been funded by Birmingham City Council, Advantage West Midlands and LG.
