Leicester Tigers unveils £100m plans
Leicester Tigers Rugby Football Club (LTRFC) has submitted plans for a £100m redevelopment of the former Granby Halls and Fosse Day Centre sites.
Situated adjacent to the club's Welford Road stadium, the outline planning application made to Leicester City Council includes the construction of a new four-star hotel. New facilities for the University Hospitals of Leicester (UHL) and the University of Leicester on the Granby Halls site, and a multi-storey car park and an office complex on the Fosse site, are also included in the plans.
LTRFC chair, Peter Tom, said: "We have worked closely with the UHL and the university to ensure their respective needs are satisfied, and we are in detailed discussions with several hotel operators who see this as an ideal opportunity." The first phase of a £60m project to redevelop the Welford Road stadium has already got underway, with work expected to be completed in August to increase the ground's capacity from 17,500 to 24,000.
