Leisure industry figures recognised in Birthday Honours
Several representatives of the leisure industry were recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list this year, including Knights Bachelor awards for Torquil Norman of the Roundhouse Trust for services to the arts and Norman Rosenthal of the Royal Academy of Arts.
CBEs were awarded to Rear Admiral Roy Clare of the National Maritime Museum; Michael Eavis, founder of the Glastonbury Festival; Thomas McGrath of the Northern Ireland Tourist Board; Alison Odell of the British Universities Sports Association; and Tim Phillips of the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club.
Stephen Carter of De Vere Hotels; Michael Diaper of the DCMS; Kim Evans of Arts Council England; Sarah Jayne Stanes of the Academy of Culinary Arts; Geoffrey Thompson, the chair of the FA; and Jacqueline Wood of the British Show Jumping Association were given OBEs.
MBEs were awarded to Sanjay Anand, the restaurateur; Dr Robert Appleyard, founder of the Yorkshire County Cricket Clubs Charitable Youth Trust; Peter Bailey of the Newhaven Local & Maritime Museum; Prescilla Baynes of Community Arts Northwest; William Bond, the founder of the Battle of Britain Historical Society; Julia Hands of Hand Picked Hotels and Kenneth Reeves, the curator of Kington Museum.
