Levy concerns delay racing fixtures release
Concerns over the Horserace Betting Levy yield forecast have prompted the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) to delay publication of the racing fixture list for 2011 until 23 September.
In addition to the postponing the publication of the list - normally released in July, the BHA's board also decided to suspend the allocation of 150 fixtures from the 250 meetings known as 'BHA fixtures'. The suspended allocation will only be reconsidered if racecourses and the Horsemen's Group can reach agreement on the allocation, while self-funded 'enterprise' fixtures will only be allowed if prize money requirements are met.
BHA director of racing Ruth Quinn said: "The challenges for racing at this time are great and planning for 2011 has been the most difficult in my experience, as I'm sure it has been for the racecourses and the horsemen. "We have made progress on a number of issues, but inevitably there is still much to be done in order to finalise the fixture list for next year, which we must do in order to create a framework for the sport."
