Liverpool could see introduction of £1.5bn regeneration project
The city of Liverpool could see the introduction of a £1.5bn project to regenerate parts of the region, with the council working on plans exploring the introduction of an Olympic standard ice rink, live music venue and television studio.
The project would see new facilities implemented into the Kings Dock and Lime Street areas, with the idea of a BMX and skateboard park, restaurants and family homes being mooted too.
If the plans are given the green light, a hotel, cinema, shops and accommodation for mature students could also be built in Lime Street and in parts of the city’s Mount Pleasant area.
Once work gets underway, Liverpool City Council believes the project could create up to 12,000 construction jobs and 4,000 permanent jobs.
Plans are currently in the initial development stages, however a planning application could be submitted early in 2015.
Funding for the project will be decided once final proposals have been put together.
The city has seen a number of development plans come to light in recent months, with Liverpool FC announcing a project to redevelop the club’s legendary Anfield stadium.
