Shepherds Bush-based £2m football centre opens its doors
A new £2m (US$2.9m, €2.6m) football centre, which consists of 10 3G five-a-side pitches, has been opened near the site of the old BBC Television Centre in Shepherds Bush.
Designed by LK2 Architects, the 11,800sq m (127,014sq ft) Hammersmith Park Football Centre includes a community-focused pavilion with a cafe, bar, changing rooms and space for a number of cycle racks.
PlayFootball – the organisation which operates Football Association (FA) accredited venues – won the tender to deliver the facility and will provide long-term management for the site.
Andy Newman, associate at LK2, said the London and Lincoln-based firm “worked hard to understand the area and the needs of the community”, adding: “Our design was developed to provide local people with a centre that allowed them to experience the positive benefits associated with participating in sport.”
PlayFootball’s Steve Bennett said that the partnership with Hammersmith and Fulham Council provided a facility to “benefit the whole community”.
