A new spa called Waterfloor has opened in Singapore this month in the central business district of the city.

Waterfloor occupies the 11th floor of the M Hotel which is part of the Millennium and Copthorne Hotel Group.

The 8,000 sq ft spa has five treatment suites, each featuring a different type of hydro therapy, including a vichy shower, a long bath, a hydrotherapy tub and an envelopment machine designed for treatments using mud, clay, seaweed, herbs and essential oils, which diffuses steam and detoxifies the body as the guest lies cocooned in its dome shaped bed.

Designed by Japanese company Zuoria Design, Waterfloor has a contemporary look, based around glass, stone, wood and stainless steel. The treatment rooms are tiled in white stone and two of them feature light boxes with bubbles and blue lighting, giving guests the impression of being underwater in a submarine.

Outside, the pool and sundeck area is reached by crossing stone platforms which sit on top of gently running water and pebbles. Small water features, including a stainless steel wall fountain and two jacuzzis integrate the spa and the outdoor area, which has glass walls overlooking the city.

Adjacent to the pool, the gym also has glass walls, revealing CV and resistance equipment by Precor, Paramount and Concept 2, and a climbing wall which dominates the right hand wall.

Twelve therapists work at the spa which offers signature treatments including the waterfloor signature facial and Singapura ritual which combines coconut and ylang ylang to reduce stress and improve skin condition. Spa packages for couples are also available. Dermalogica and French based Phytosun Aroms provide the products for the spa.

There are five M Hotels in the world, but this is the first to incorporate a spa into its property. The group will wait to see how well it does, before making a decision about developing the concept further.
