MAMA takes over Mean Fiddler assets
MAMA Group – the owner of the Hammersmith Apollo and Kentish Town Forum – has acquired businesses and assets belonging to Mean Fiddler Holdings (MFH) for £6m.
MFH, which is owned by US entertainment firm Live Nation, owns several London music venues including Jazz Café, The Borderline, the Garage and the former Mean Fiddler venue, as well as a substantial per cent stake in G-A-Y.
MAMA will also be able to trade under the Mean Fiddler name. The Aim-listed company also owns seven Barfly venues in the country and manages bands such Franz Ferdinand and the Kaiser Chiefs.
MFH will retain control of the Astoria venue and will be entitled to operate festivals such as Reading and Leeds under the Mean Fiddler name as a non-exclusive licensee of MAMA.
Adam Driscoll and Dean James, co-chief executives of MAMA, issued a joint statement that said: “This acquisition structure will enable us to immediately progress the integration of the venues into our live music division.”
MFH will reportedly rebrand as Festival Republic and continue to be run by the same management team.
