A major £350m leisure development has been proposed for Newhaven, East Sussex, which is expected to incorporate a new waterpark and a hotel.
The project will be led by Round Table Entertainments, which has been in talks with Lewes District Council (LDC). However, the local authority has insisted that residents will be given the "final say".
According to The Argus, the scheme is to include "the world's largest waterpark" alongside a casino and a hotel, with a feasibility study into the proposals now underway.
LDC had already revealed that it had sold Lewes Road Recreation Ground to Round Table Entertainments for a hotel scheme, but has now confirmed the leisure development plans.
According to the local authority, it had been bound by confidentiality requirements during the talks with the developer, with Newhaven among a range of locations being considered.
LDC leader James Page has expressed delight that Newhaven is now in line for the leisure resort but vowed no development would take place without a full public consultation.
"We want the public to decide on these proposals and indeed discuss how the investment opportunity could benefit them," said Page.
"I feel this is a great opportunity for local residents to set out what they would like from a potential £350m investment in their community."
