Man killed in rollercoaster collision at Cedar Point
A 45-year-old man has been killed at Ohio’s Cedar Point theme park after straying into a restricted area and being hit by a rollercoaster.
James Young entered a “restricted fenced off area” at around 5pm local time, according to the park after reportedly trying to retrieve a lost mobile phone. Young was then struck by the park’s Raptor rollercoaster and later died of his injuries.
Cedar Point is one of Ohio’s most popular attractions and the second-oldest amusement park in North America. Raptor, which is one of the park’s 17 rollercoasters, can reach speeds of up to 57mph (92kmph). This is the first ride-related death in the park’s 145-year history.
