Manual handling information kit
In NSW, manual handling incidents are the most common cause of workplace injuries and occupational diseases - representing 37 per cent of all major injuries.
Manual Handling is any activity that involves lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying or moving, holding or restraining. It also includes sustained and awkward postures or repetitive movements. The Consumer Services Industry Reference Group, made up of employer and worker representatives from the industry, has produced a Manual Handling in Consumer Services information kit which includes a number of case studies.
The case studies deal with examples of manual handling issues from different sectors including restaurants, pubs & clubs, accommodation, film & television, casino, horse racing and the funeral industry. Injury prevention doesn't need to be complicated. The case studies provide examples of practical solutions to everyday issues.
The information kit, including case studies, is available on WorkCover's website.
