Mayor earmarks £14m for skills schemes
London mayor Boris Johnson has revealed that £14m has been ring-fenced for investment in skills and employment opportunities before, during and after the 2012 Games.
Johnson has pledged to continue funding "vital schemes" that were specifically set up as part of efforts to deliver a skills legacy from the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Three different projects will receive a share of the £14m over the next three years - part of a targeted effort to ensure Londoners are able to find jobs or enhance their prospects.
It comes after the mayor was successful in lobbying attempts with the government to secure an Enterprise Zone for the historic Royal Docks area. Johnson said: "We have always said that the skills and jobs prospects of Londoners must be transformed as a result of the Games and Londoners should rightly hold us to that pledge.
"Working with our partners we have already helped thousands of Londoners into work or training and I am confident that we can achieve even more as we head into the critical months leading up to the Games."
