Merthyr Tydfil FC enters administration
Doubts remain over the long-term future of Merthyr Tydfil Football Club (MTFC) after an administrator was appointed to oversee the running of the Welsh non-league club.
The club, which currently plays in the British Gas Business Football League Premier Division, had encountered financial difficulties in February after it was revealed that a cash injection of £50,000 was required to enable it to fulfil its league fixtures. A winding-up order has also been brought against MTFC, which was due to be heard at London's High Court on 17 June, although Merthyr Supporters Trust hopes that entering administration will give it time to raise the necessary funds to acquire the club and safeguard its future.
A spokesperson for the trust said: "The administrator will now seek to find a buyer for the business, his main objective being to seek the best outcome he can for the creditors. "Although there may be other potential purchasers of the business, the Trust Board will continue to develop its plans to bid for the business."
