New DCMS ministerial team revealed
The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) has confirmed the appointments of John Penrose, Ed Vaizey and Hugh Robertson to ministerial positions.
Robertson - Conservative MP for Faversham and Mid Kent - is the new minister for sport and the Olympics, having shadowed the brief since 2005 and replaces Gerry Sutcliffe. Ed Vaizey – Conservative MP for Wantage and Didcot – has been handed the ministerial brief for culture, a role he has shadowed since 2006, while John Penrose - Conservative MP for Weston-super-Mare - is the new minister for tourism.
Penrose said: "Over the last few decades Weston has suffered particularly harshly from the rapid decline of the traditional British seaside holiday market. "This new role means I can be an even stronger voice for Weston in Westminster and I look forward to being able to not only help our town but other seaside towns like it and this country's tourism industry as a whole."
The ministerial appointments follow the announcement that Jeremy Hunt had been named culture secretary at DCMS, taking on responsibility for the 2012 Olympics, which had formed a separate brief under the previous administration.
