New Manchester restaurant devastated by blaze
A fire has destroyed a Manchester restaurant barely a week after it reopened following a six month £3.2m refurbishment. The reasons for the fire are yet to be determined.
The privately-owned Panacea in Alderley Edge launched last week on the former site of the pub restaurant Brasingamens. It is the sister site to Panacea on John Dalton Street in Manchester.
The refurbishment resulted in the property's layout being reconfigured so that the ground floor was split between a 100-cover restaurant, an outdoor dining area and daytime bar. There was an elliptic staircase leading to the first floor with an evening bar.
A spokesperson for Panacea said: "No expense had been spared on the finishes, from corian table and bar surfaces to the furniture, which was provided by designers Poltrona Frau of Italy. The pieces designed and made for Panacea were prototypes that are not found in any other venue."
