New board of trustees announced for Birmingham Museums Trust
A new board of trustees incorporating expertise from the arts, science and business sectors among others has been announced for the new Birmingham Museums Trust (BMT).
It is one of the largest museums services in the UK to go to trust status and will oversee the operation of attractions such as Thinktank and Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery.
BMT has already been confirmed as a Renaissance major partner by Arts Council England and will receive nearly £5.1m of funding over a three-year period.
VisitEngland chair Lady Cobham and Sir Mark Jones, a former director of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, are among those confirmed as new trustees.
Graham Allen, former head of Birmingham Museums Service, and Professor Alice Roberts, who has appeared on Time Team and Coast will also join the board.
BMT director Ann Sumner said: "The board's breadth of experience and expertise will be instrumental in forging the future of the new trust."
