New community sports centre for Brixton
Fulham striker, Barry Hayles, launched a new community sports centre in Brixton on 28 June, with Kate Hoey MP.
Having been open to the public since March, the Ferndale Community Sports Centre's official opening was followed by a football tournament, netball sessions with coaching from England netball player, Janet Coulborne and dance and fitness classes.
The centre offers six outdoor, floodlit all-weather pitches for football, tennis and netball, a new indoor pavilion with a sprung floor studio for fitness classes, changing rooms and community meeting rooms and office space.
Fusion, a not for profit, community-oriented organisation, will be providing services at the centre under a three year agreement in partnership with Lambeth Council.
The centre has been principally funded by over £1m of lottery money from Sport England, with other contributions coming from Lambeth Council, the London Development Agency’s Single Regeneration Budget, the Wates Memorial Fund and the Football Association.
