New exhibition for Cornwall museum
The National Maritime Museum Cornwall (NMM) is to launch a new major exhibition on lighthouses in the new year.
Called Lighthouses: Life on the Rocks, the exhibition opens in February 2010 and will run for two years.
The installation's artefacts will include old sketchbooks and photos taken by former lighthouse keepers, as well as large objects such as a four-tonne optic used to reflect light and solid bronze doors from the Bishop Rock lighthouse.
Part funded by a £30,000 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund, the exhibition was designed by Falmouth-based Gendall Design.
Gendall's previous work at the NMM includes the touring exhibition Surf's up.
Ben Lumby, NMM's exhibition's manager, said: "The compelling true life stories of lighthouse keepers will be at the heart of this exhibition and Life on the Rocks will bring these incredible stories to life in an imaginative and inspiring way."
