New fitness facilities for Redhill complex
Reigate and Banstead Borough Council (RBBC) has opened a new fitness suite at Donyngs Recreation Centre in Redhill - part of its wider £3.4m refurbishment at the venue.
The gym has been supplied with 100 pieces of equipment from Life Fitness, which includes cv, resistance and free weights stations. An audio-visual system has also been installed. A number of the stations feature removable seating to accommodate wheelchairs and ensure the centre can work towards the Inclusive Fitness Initiative's (IFI) standard.
Meanwhile, a youth gym has also been created for 11-16 year olds, boasting dance mats and a target board, along with three new treatment rooms offering physiotherapy. RBBC executive member for leisure and wellbeing Adam De Save said: "One of the aims of the refurbishment is to reach out to all members of the community including children, older people and families.
"The gym is also being made more accessible for customers with disabilities and has a range of equipment suitable for visually impaired and disabled users." Work on the second phase of the Donyngs Recreation Centre revamp has commenced and is due for completion in June, including a new soft play area and enhanced dry changing areas.
Entrance, reception and pool area improvements are scheduled for the third phase. Centre operator GLL is providing £1.4m towards the scheme, with RBBC contributing the remainder.
