New leisure complex proposed for NEC
A new leisure and entertainment complex is to be developed on the outskirts of Birmingham under new plans unveiled by Genting Casinos UK and the NEC Group.
Resorts World at The NEC is to be situated on a site between the LG Arena and the Crowne Plaza Hotel, although the project is dependent on Genting securing a large casino licence. A decision on the licence is expected from Solihull Council in late May, with plans due to be submitted for the development in early summer.
The 55,000sq m (592,015sq ft) complex is set to feature a hotel; a spa; a casino; a banqueting and conference centre; a multi-screen cinema; food and beverage outlets; and an outlet centre. It is anticipated that Resorts World at The NEC will be launched in late 2013/early 2014, and is the result of more than three years planning by Genting Casinos UK and the NEC Group.
The scheme will create more than 1,100 full time equivalent jobs and is expected to result in an investment in Solihull and local economy of around £120m.
