Edinburgh's new-look Royal Commonwealth Pool is due to reopen to the public on 21 March, following a GBP37m renovation undertaken by Graham Construction.

Funding for the S&P Architects-designed scheme, which has involved stripping back the A-listed building to its bare shell before a complete rebuild, has been contributed by both the City of Edinburgh Council and sportscotland.

Facilities at the new-look Royal Commonwealth Pool will include a 50m, eight-lane pool for community and elite use; a re-orientated diving pool with moveable floor; a dry dive facility with trampolines an springboards; and a 25m warm-up pool.

Meanwhile, the venue's gym, fitness studios and changing village have been fully revamped and expanded as part of the scheme. New dry soft play facilities will also be among the Royal Commonwealth Pool's facilities.

Council culture and leisure convener Deidre Brock said: "This has been an incredibly complex engineering project which has transformed the Grade A-listed building into a truly world class aquatics facility.

"We know huge excitement is building across the city and beyond as people look forward to rediscovering, or indeed discovering, their beautifully modernised RCP, and we can't wait to welcome them back!"

sportscotland chief executive Stewart Harris added: "The extensive refurbishment of the Royal Commonwealth Pool will provide the people of Edinburgh, and further afield, with a world-class facility."

In July 2010, it was announced that British Swimming would use the new-look venue as a training camp ahead of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
