New-look Huddesfield park set to reopen
Kirklees Council has revealed that a free event is to take place at Huddersfield's Greenhead Park on 25 September to mark the end of an extensive programme of renovation work.
The two-phase project got underway in July 2009 and had initially been due for completion in late 2010, but was delayed by poor weather conditions during the last two winters. John Hellens (Contracts); Ronan Developments; Gillespies; and Buro Happold were among the firms to work on the scheme, along with Turner and Townsend Project Management.
It is hoped the renovation - funded with the help of £3.75m from the Heritage Lottery Fund - will ensure Greenhead Park has a "sustainable and successful" future. Kirklees Council cabinet member for regeneration Peter McBride said: "These celebrations are an ideal opportunity for new and returning visitors to explore the park and see for themselves what a wonderful transformation has taken place."
