New sports centre for Stoke-on-Trent
Work has started on a new £4m sports facility at Stoke-on-Trent College, which is scheduled to be up and running by September.
The new complex will have an indoor sports hall, fitness suite and aerobics facilities and allows the college to have all of its sports facilities in one place.
Most of the funding has come from the college’s budget, with £2m from the Skills Funding Agency. It is part of a £6m plan by the college to improve and enhance both its campuses.
College principal, Sarah Robinson, says: “When these fantastic new facilities are completed, both our students and members of the public will benefit, as we will be able to offer a far wider range of sports and outdoor education programmes in a modern environment.”
The new centre will allow for the provision of a wider range of courses and more specific performance, recreational and coaching based provision in a range of sports, such as cricket, netball and volleyball.
