New visitor experience for Plymouth City Museum
The Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery in the UK is now offering visitors the chance to better understand its collections with new tours of the facility, following its £1.4m refurbishment.
Art Bites, the free 20-minute tour and presentations will focus on the new decorative art displays - one of the venue's largest collections of historical Plymouth and Bristol porcelain. The refurbishment scheme, led by Plymouth City Council (PCC), focused on the redisplay of the collection in the museum's Atrium Gallery on the first floor balcony, the revamp of the ground floor and the creation of a new coffee shop and retail space. The attraction's foyer and education room was also revamped, creating four new gallery spaces.
The scheme was funded by a £756,000 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), as well as match funding from the DCMS' Wolfson Museums and Galleries Improvement Fund and Renaissance in the Regions. Mark Tosdevin, the museum's visitor services manager, said: "Our refurbishment scheme has enabled us to introduce a whole host of improvements to the museum. It's a real achievement for us to be able to develop our service to meet people's expectations and help them get the most out of their visit." The tour will run on 3 June and 1 July.
