North Ayrshire Leisure launches mobile fitness unit
North Ayrshire Leisure in Scotland has launched a mobile health and fitness unit this month to promote participation in regular physical activity in the local area.
The Activator, which will target people in disadvantaged areas, is staffed by the leisure trust’s health and fitness staff. It will deliver health and fitness advice, testing and activities directly within the community, linking to programmes provided by other voluntary and statutory agencies.
The initiative is part of a strategy funded by North Ayrshire Community Planning Partnership to address health issues in the west of Scotland and regenerate local communities.
The strategy also offers free use of leisure facilities for young people.
North Ayrshire Leisure operates The Magnum Leisure Centre in Irvine, Auchenharvie Leisure Centre in Stevenston, Garnock Swimming Pool in Kilbirnie, Vikingar leisure centre and Viking experience centre in Largs and three 18-hole golf courses across the county. Details: www.naleisure.co.uk
