North York Moors to launch fitness intitiaves
North York Moors National Park Authority (NYMNPA) is this year offering a range of walks, workshops and adventure activities that aim to relax and invigorate both body and mind as part of its calendar of events and activities.
A series of free guided walks will be taking place every first Sunday and Wednesday from April through to November.
Part of a national scheme called ‘Walking the way to Health’, the walks are organised by the Authority in partnership with North Yorkshire & York Primary Care Trust and will be led by a National Park Ranger or Volunteer.
he walks range from one to five miles and are categorised into three levels from a gentle stroll on easy terrain suitable for wheelchairs and buggies to walks of a more challenging nature.
Starting from different locations around the National Park and accessible by public transport, each walk will provide information about the local area, its history, nature, wildlife and conservation.
To complement the walks, a new range of workshops that aim to improve people’s overall wellbeing has alos been introduced.
Workshops include anintroduction to alternative therapies such as chakras, reiki, self hypnosis and meditation.
Sally Ann Smith, events co-ordinator at NYMNPA, said: “Walking is widely recognised as one of the most beneficial forms of exercise for people of all ages and abilities and can also be a useful way for people recuperating from an operation or illness to regain their strength.
“All our guides have received first aid training and have an excellent knowledge of the National Park, its rights of way and natural history so I hope lots of people will take this opportunity to get out and explore their local area.” Details: www.moors.uk.net
