Detailed designs for the London 2012 Athletes' Village, which will be used to provide affordable housing for Londoners in legacy mode, have been unveiled by the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA).

The plans include the construction of 11 residential blocks, which will offer a total of 17,000 beds for athletes during the Games, as well as open recreational space incorporating a jogging area and a Central Park area based on a British village green. More than 2,800 homes will be made available to Londoners after the 2012 Games, with nearly 1,400 providing affordable housing following a £269m deal between the ODA and the Triathlon Homes joint venture.

Residents will also be able to take advantage of more than 10 hectares (24.7 acres) of new parks and open space in legacy mode, while the new Chobham Academy education campus is to be established to cater for 1,800 students aged between three and 19 years old. ODA chair John Armitt said: "Providing a world-class Village will play a crucial role in helping athletes deliver record-breaking performances in 2012 but we are also focussing on creating gold-medal-standard housing in legacy.

"By aiming for the highest standards in design, sustainability and construction we will ensure the Village is a high-quality asset for the public-sector that delivers a lasting legacy for east London." Swiss landscape design firm Vogt Landschaftarchitekten and urban designers Patel Taylor will develop the Olympic Village masterplan along with Fletcher Priest, while a number of other companies are also involved with the design process.

Elements of the Olympic Village scheme are also being drawn up by Allford Hall Monaghan Morris, CF Moller, Denton Corker Marshall, De Rijke Marsh Morgan, and DSDHA, as well as Eric Parry, Glenn Howells, Ian Simpson, Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands, MAKE, Niall McLaughlin, Panter Hudspith, and Piercy Conner.
