Olympic legacy sports board launched
Former sports minister Kate Hoey has chaired the first meeting of the London Community Sports Board (LCSB), the body set up to monitor London's Olympic legacy.
LCSB's first task will be to ensure the London mayor Boris Johnson's investment of £15.5m into grass-roots sport is used as effectively as possible.
Chaired by Hoey - whom the mayor appointed as London's sports commissioner earlier this year - the board will also include Colin Moynihan, chair of the British Olympic Association; Rosi Prescott, chief executive of Central YMCA; and David Sparkes, chief executive of the Amateur Swimming Association. A ministerial nominee, who will be appointed shortly, will complete membership of the Board.
Hoey said: "The London Community Sports Board brings together individuals with a huge wealth of experience across all aspects of sport and physical activity.
"I have no doubt that they will prove invaluable, in determining where and how funding should be spent to benefit all Londoners. The Mayor is committed to driving up sports participation across London and the Board will play a key role in ensuring that this is delivered. I look forward to working alongside them in the years ahead."
In May, Johnson and Hoey unveiled their vision for grass root sports with a plan entitled A Sporting Future for London.
