Hertsmere Leisure has become the first charitable trust in the leisure industry to provide detailed access information about their leisure and sports facilities, partnering with disability organisation DisabledGo.

Hertsmere Leisure is a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee established to provide and promote community sport, recreational and arts services.

Speaking about the project Jude Lewis, Sales and Marketing Director from Hertsmere Leisure said: "Accessibility is very important to us. We are committed to providing the best possible information and services to our customers and we see this project as an excellent way of empowering disabled people to make informed choices about their leisure time."

Information to four of Hertsmere Leisure's flagship facilities has been collected by a DisabledGo surveyor to a set standard, used nationally - that guarantees the quality of the information.

People can find out general information such as the availability of parking and adapted toilets to the very specific, including how doors open, the car park surface type, whether hearing assistance systems are available even the type of IFI accredited equipment that is available.

All the details collected by DisabledGo has been asked for directly by disabled people through ongoing consultation and is available free of charge on www.disabledgo.com

Speaking about their partnership Anna Borthwick, Head of Business Development at DisabledGo said: "We are thrilled that Hertsmere Leisure commissioned this work, it offers disabled people greater choice and further enhances customer service.

"We very much hope that other Leisure Trusts will look at the pioneering work done by Hertsmere Leisure and see the value it could offer them."
