Paralympic legend backs half marathon
Britain's greatest Paralympian is urging people to get into the spirit of a summer of sport - by signing up for the Redcar Half Marathon.
The event will celebrate its 30th anniversary when hundreds of runners pound the streets of the seaside town on Sunday, September 30.
And Paralympic legend Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson is once again lending her support to the ever-popular occasion.
Organised by Tees Valley Leisure on behalf of Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, the event has attracted tens of thousands of entrants and created countless cherished memories over the past three decades.
It is hoped that this year's event – sponsored by Redcar & Cleveland Primary Care Trust - will be the best yet, with a new 13.1-mile, all-tarmac flat route starting and finishing on Redcar's seafront.
Dame Tanni is hoping that a record-breaking number of entrants will be taking part.
"There is such a huge focus on the Olympics and Paralympics this year that it would be great to see another fantastic sporting occasion right here in Redcar," she said.
"It is always a wonderful event and I would love to see more people than ever turn out for the 30th anniversary."
The half marathon starts at 10am, with the ten-mile wheelchair race setting off five minutes earlier.
Race organiser Ian Donley, Managing Director of Tees Valley Leisure, said:
"Dame Tanni has always been a strong supporter of the half marathon and we are delighted to have her backing once more.
