Pickles rejects GBP200m Project Pinewood plans
Plans for a £200m mixed-use development at Pinewood Studios, centred around a working and living community for the creative industries, have been rejected by the government.
Communities secretary Eric Pickles has refused planning permission for Project Pinewood, having already been turned down by South Buckinghamshire District Council in 2009.
A multi-purpose community venue, indoor and outdoor sports facilities and a cinema would have formed part of the 44-acre (109-acre) scheme at Iver Heath, Buckinghamshire.
Plans also included a theatre, public open spaces and a music production area, in addition to the creation of iconic streetscapes such as Paris and New York for filmmakers and producers.
However, there were significant concerns from both the local authority and the communities secretary regarding the impact of the proposals on surrounding green belt land.
A Pinewood Shepperton spokesperson said: "The company's investment in the Project Pinewood land and costs incurred for the planning application are not material to the long term prospects of the company.
"The company will continue to implement its master planning consents at Pinewood and Shepperton studios and pursue its international strategy of developing studios overseas."
